My house is nearly 20 years old. This is the first update it's had since we built it. Bathrooms are also being updated later in the year.

I bring a certain ā€œI enjoy saturated colorsā€ vibe that the Redecor community really doesnā€™t like.

What are the 7 Elements of Interior Design?
Interior design is both an art and a science that focuses on enhancing the interior of a space to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment. To create a balanced and harmonious interior, designers rely on the seven core elements: space, line, form, light, color, texture, and pattern. Letā€™s dive into each of these elements to understand their significance in interior design.
1. Space
Space is the foundation of any interior design. It is the physical boundaries within which the designer works. Space can be divided into two types: positive space (the areas filled with furniture or dƩcor) and negative space (the empty areas that provide visual rest). A well-balanced use of space ensures that a room does not feel cluttered or too sparse.
2. Line
Lines are responsible for creating forms and shapes within a space. They provide a sense of direction and guide the eye around a room. Lines can be horizontal, vertical, or dynamic (curved or angled). The careful use of lines can help establish harmony, contrast, and unity in an interior.
3. Form
Form is the shape of the room and the objects within it. It can be geometric (man-made) or natural (organic). To create visual interest, designers often use a mix of different forms that complement each other. When selecting furniture or decorative items, consider their form to ensure they fit well within the overall design.
4. Light
Light plays a crucial role in setting the mood and functionality of a space. There are two types of light: natural and artificial. Proper lighting enhances the color, texture, and patterns in a room, contributing to its overall ambiance. Whether it is task lighting for a study area or ambient lighting for a cozy living room, light must be well-planned.
5. Color
Color affects how a room feels and can create a variety of moods. Cool colors like blue and green can make a space feel calm and refreshing, while warm colors like red and yellow add warmth and energy. Choosing the right color palette is essential for bringing all elements together cohesively.
6. Texture
Texture refers to the tactile quality of surfaces. It can be visual (how something looks like it feels) or actual (how it really feels). A good mix of textures, like a soft rug paired with a rough wooden table, adds depth and interest to a room, making it more inviting and engaging.
7. Pattern
Patterns add life and movement to a room. They are created by repeating designs or shapes and can be found in wallpaper, fabrics, and rugs. Patterns should be used thoughtfully to avoid overwhelming the space. When chosen correctly, patterns can enhance the roomā€™s visual appeal and tie different elements together.

Okay, guess the bi genderwhatever robot thing's gotta save your butts.
HERE'S HOW TO REDECORATE.
Forget your tools. Redecorating means DECORATING. That means different furniture, different accent pieces, y'know, maybe some paint. Tools is a renovation thing and you can go to Youtube for that. Most of em aren't that hard. Hardest you're gonna get for this kinda thing is a miter saw.
Take ya shit outta that room. Leave it empty for a bit.
Walk from room to room into that room. What colors are in the other rooms' deco that you can bring into that room? Or, failing that, what colors would make passing through this room into the other rooms make sense? Think flow here.
Less is more. Use two or three colors as ACCENTS on a mostly-neutral main palette. Are you using bright, super-bold colors? ONE wall can be that color as an accent in your redeco'ed room, but don't do the whole room that color, it'll just overpower everything. Make the rest of the walls a neutral tone that'll go along with it. Also if you change your mind and decide to go with a different bold color, swapping out one wall is easier than all of em. The light, neutral colors make a room look bigger; if you go for a darker neutral it makes the room seem smaller and more cramped, and also makes it harder to see in there. Not kidding, the lighter neutrals will reflect light and make it easier to light the place more effectively, dark neutrals will make you put a lot of lighting or just some higher wattage bulbs in there.
Bring ya shit back in. See which pieces of furniture will work and which need to get changed out. If you gotta sofa you really like and the color doesn't work, get a damn slipcover. Goes over the whole thing, changes the color up, also protects it from spills and shit.
Need new furniture? Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. You can get stuff for dirt cheap there. Also your local thrift shops - the St. Teresa, to a lesser extent Goodwill, will have your back. Never go to an actual furniture store. You'll pay out the fuckin' wazoo for absolute shit. Yard sales and estate sales are also absolute gold.
Don't be afraid to lift other people's ideas. If you see a picture of a room and you think "huh that'd look really boss in this room" then SURE STEAL THAT SHIT. Doesn't matter that you saw it in a magazine, just start to replicate the feel and look of it as best you can without breaking the bank, see if it really works in your space.
You can use FUCKING ANYTHING as a coffee table as long as it has a flat, level surface on top.
BOOKSHELVES ARE YOUR FRIEND. Every room looks great with a bookshelf in there somewhere. Stick your tchotchkes up with the books, now they got a purpose.
When in doubt, put a vintage RCA model 155-C oscilloscope on a shelf along with your weirdest books. Buff off some of that paint on the sides, it's copper underneath. Looks great.
Are you happy in the space? Do YOU think it looks good? Then that's all that fuckin' matters.
Yes Iā€™m a gay man. Yes I have no interior design sense. Yes we exist.

I have had so much energy this weekend (could it be the vitamin patches? maybe the sunshine? either way, Iā€™ll take it. thank you universe.) so I decided to work on some projects.
The purple panel will eventually get put together, once all of the other panels have been painted, and will be my new pantry! Iā€™m super excited. The color is GORGEOUS! Lightly sanding the panels is my least favorite part of this project.
The metal cabinet was a project I started a while ago, but abandoned. All of the red was done previously. Today, I added the dark purple shelf (only enough purple paint for that one shelf. this is a leftover spray paint and chalkboard paint project). I think Iā€™m gonna get the bottom two shelves wiped down so that I can at least get the shelves done today. I plan to put chalkboard paint on the doors and the outside will be probably metallic silver (thatā€™s what I have most of).
I have been slowly chipping away at household improvement projects. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so that can bring some mobility and energy challenges. Iā€™m a rather determined and strong-willed gal though, so with good pacing, I will totally accomplish my home improvement goals. Iā€™ll be Alaska the Tool Gal soon enough!
